Volunteer Needs From: Pittsburgh Cares

Sojourner House provides residential, inpatient treatment to mothers with substance use disorder. Located in East Liberty, we provide 24/7 residential rehabilitation services for 14 families at any given time. While at Sojourner House, women and their children receive individualized support so the entire family can find stability, healing, and hope.

To give our residential treatment building some love, we are hosting a Summer Refresh Volunteer Day! We are looking for at least twenty volunteers to join us on Friday July 31st anytime between 3pm to 8pm to give the Sojourner House building a much-needed refresh. Activities will include:

These projects will make sure our treatment building remains a welcoming space for all the families we serve and that all in-kind donations are easily accessible when needed.

Volunteers can stay the full five hours or drop-in for part of the volunteer event. Please email elambright@sjhpa.org with any questions.

Now more than ever we are relying on grassroots efforts to achieve our mission. We are seeking motivated volunteers to assist with administrative tasks related to day to day operations. Responsibilities include maintaining volunteer databases, creating and distributing recruitment materials, copying/scanning, preparing mailings, and assembling outreach kits. This role offers an opportunity to develop organizational and communication skills while making a positive impact in our community. Some technology or comfort with using technology is preferred but we do have other projects that do not require technology.

Sojourner House's signature event is the Annual Victorian Tea. The Victorian Tea is entering it's 21st year on April 27, 2025. The event will be held at the Wyndham Grand Downtown and we anticipate a crowd of 350 people. The Victorian Tea is a social afternoon with traditional "High Tea" fare, socializing, and fundraising activities. We are looking for volunteers to join the planning of this year's event from selling tickets, gathering auction items, planning the agenda and decor of this annual fundraiser. 

Sojourner House and Sojourner House MOMS (Mentoring, Opportunity, Motivation, Spirituality) provide compassionate, faith-based residential recovery services to mothers and children in the Pittsburgh area.  We help mothers with substance use disorder learn to break the intergenerational cycle of poverty and substance use while rebuilding damaged relationships with their children.  Sojourner House believes women can build a brighter future when surrounded by what means most to them: their children.

We have individuals and groups volunteer to provide educational, parenting, cooking, health and wellness classes for our women and children among many other programs. We do require background checks for some program activities.
