Description

The American Red Cross is seeking Disaster Services Technology Team Members to provide essential technology and communications support before, during, and after disasters. In this role, you will help ensure disaster response teams have the equipment, connectivity, and technical resources needed to serve communities affected by emergencies.

This is an excellent opportunity for individuals with IT, technical support, communications, or troubleshooting experience who want to use their skills to make a meaningful impact.

Key Responsibilities

As a Disaster Services Technology Team Member, you will:

  • Install, configure, and support computers, printers, and other IT equipment in accordance with Disaster Technology Procedures (DTPs) and IT policies.
  • Set up and maintain communications equipment, including radios and antennas.
  • Test and troubleshoot network and internet connectivity issues.
  • Provide basic guidance and support to users on Red Cross hardware and software systems.
  • Inventory technology equipment and accurately track assignments and locations.
  • Monitor technology systems and resolve issues that affect workflow, communications, or service delivery.
  • Support disaster preparedness, response, and recovery operations as needed.

Time Commitment

  • Flexible volunteer opportunity
  • Approximately 1 to 5 hours per week
  • Additional opportunities may be available during disaster response operations

Qualifications

We are looking for volunteers who have:

  • A willingness to comply with current Red Cross policies for in-person volunteer activities.
  • Experience using and troubleshooting technology equipment, including laptops, tablets, smartphones, printers, and/or radio communications equipment.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to follow written procedures and verbal instructions.
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multitask in fast-paced and changing environments.
  • Strong customer service skills and the ability to communicate professionally with diverse individuals.
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving, including knowing when to seek assistance.
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods and adapt to irregular schedules during disaster operations.
