The Cellar is an afterschool program for students in grades 9-12, located in the basement of First Presbyterian Church of Pittsburgh (320 Sixth Avenue, Downtown Pittsburgh). It is a year-round, non-academic hang out space that draws 40+ students each day from 30 different schools. Students have access to a pool table, foosball, video games, arts/crafts, board games, basketball and more. The Cellar operates each Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 3-6 pm. (Entrance on Sixth Avenue). We will resume for the '25-'26 school year on Tuesday, September 2, 2025.
Volunteers (Christian men and women) are needed, beginning at 2pm, to help prepare and distribute snacks (hotdogs, nachos, etc.), monitor basketball playing, assist with arts/crafts and generally be a caring adult presence in the room.
If you have a heart for God and for urban youth, please consider joining us. As you will be working with minors, volunteers must either already have or be willing to obtain (at no cost through the church) a Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance.
In addition to confirming your registration here (by selecting "Sign Up") you will also need to contact us for more information - 412-471-3436 x220 (Cheryl Swartz) or cswartz@fpcp.org.
