Volunteer Needs From: Pittsburgh Cares

Volunteer: Database Project for Meals on Wheels -This could be fun!!

Our meals on wheels program is currently using a MS Access Database that is hosted online and our problem is that is has become very expensive (over $2000/yr) and our small program cannot afford this much longer.  The issue is that the database code was written by a large meals on wheels and modified for our use.  When we asked if the database can simply be installed on our PC, we were told that it's not possible the way it is written.

Just for kicks, I started dabbling with Chat GPT and the database.  It quickly knew much of the data needed for a meals on wheels program and seems promising.

I'm not an expert in writing code and get rather lost, but for someone with experience, it will be simple to understand. Looking for some guidance and assistance in setting up a Database for a Meals on Wheels Program. Let's see how far AI can go!  I'm hopeful that it won't take up too much of your time.  Most everything should be able to happen remotely as well as at a time that is convenient for you.

This would be huge for our program if you choose to help because a small organization simply cannot afford to hire and pay for a custom written database.  That being said, after the program is set up and running successfully, we would be willing to discuss some type of fee for future maintenance if needed (there always seem to be glitches/oddities that come up with databases).

While we are currently using MS Access, but it doesn't need to be.  If you find that SQL or perhaps oven something like Apache open source software would be preferred, I'm open to suggestions.

I hope to hear from you and thanks for the consideration.

Volunteer: Meals on Wheels Food Prep

Feel good by helping prepare salads, sandwiches, packing bags etc. for the elderly and disabled people in our area.  It's not hard work, just requires a little of your time. The small amount of time that you give will greatly help others who are possibly alone with nobody in their lives to help.

Currently need help on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays.

Interested people must call in advance to schedule a time and date to come in.

If interested or have any questions, please contact Dan at 724-217-0211-cell phone.
