Volunteer Needs From: Pittsburgh Cares

NOTE: This project is exclusively open to associates of DICK'S Sporting Goods.

Brighten the summer for children and adults with disability and chronic illness. In preparation of one of their largest fundraising events, volunteers will provide much needed assistance on campus improvement projects like landscaping, painting, clearing nature trails, and more. This is one of two opportunities to volunteer at The Woodlands this year.

Waiver: All volunteers must complete two volunteer waivers upon registering.

What to Wear: DSG shirts will be provided, but please arrive wearing comfortable, casual clothing that can get dirty. Volunteers must wear closed-toe shoes that they can easily move around in (sneakers or light boots). Project will be outdoors weather permitting - sun and rain protection is suggested. Project will move indoors if rain.

What to Bring:  Refreshments and lunch will be provided, but a reusable water bottle may be handy. We also recommend bringing a light backpack or drawstring bag so you may work "hands-free" if you do not want to leave belongings in your car or on the property.

About The Woodlands Foundation: The Woodlands Foundation aims to enrich the lives of children and adults with disability and chronic illness. Their barrier-free environment encourages everyone, of every ability and disability, to safely explore what’s possible and discover new levels of independence. Hands-on experiences guided by staff help to reinforce social, cultural, environmental, recreational and life skills growth. Participation is encouraged at every level, and celebrated in a welcoming and approachable group setting such as camps, retreats, clubs and events. The Woodlands is a 52-acre property that includes an indoor heated pool, 48-bed lodge, dining hall, creative arts lab, activity center, camping area, sports court, nature trail, adapted zip line, amphitheater, adapted kitchen, adapted archery range, and a par-3 adapted golf course.

Volunteers will help with a much-needed deep clean and beautification of the Lawrenceville clubhouse from indoor facilities to outdoor grounds keeping. In addition to cleaning, additional tasks may include organizing and tracking inventory of supplies, decorating bulletin boards, setting up the welcome center, planting, and mulching.

About Venture Outdoors: Venture Outdoors (VO) is a Pittsburgh-based non-profit connecting people to the benefits of getting outdoors. Since 2001, their team of Outdoor Educators and Volunteer Trip Leaders have guided people of all ages and stages to hike, bike, run, paddle, geocache, and more. VO serves the communities of Western Pennsylvania from children to young adults to seniors, individuals to families, and preschool classrooms to college programs to corporate teams.
