What We Do

We are a small but mighty, progressive and feminist not for profit whose mission for the past 130 years has been to work with our Jewish values to improve the lives of all women, children and families. Currently we meet that mission by advocating for high quality, accessible child care, for reproductive healthcare access, and for protecting and promoting the vote. NCJW Pittsburgh operates: 1) Children's Rooms in the Courts serving children whose caregivers have business in the court system 2)Thriftique, our sustainable clothing model thrift store that offers job training and provides income to support our programming. 3)MomsWork, an advocacy arm whose ultimate goal is to increase financial stability for working moms. Our volunteer opportunities include coordinating community engagement activities, planning events, strategizing advocacy projects, or participating in one-off actions, etc. Actions have included buying, sorting, and distributing clothing to area organizations for the children they serve, sorting and labeling donated books for distribution to our Children's Rooms, attending a march or protest, writing letters to the editor or to legislators, stuffing comfort bags for people who are seeking reproductive healthcare, baking for distribution to repro clinic providers, etc. The educational programs we offer are co-hosted by our partners and are on topics related to our mission. Through it all, we have a lot of fun and develop social connections. All are welcome to attend and to volunteer. We hope to see you at one of our offerings.
