Volunteers will help clear out the CHS warehouse in the Strip District and prepare it for revitalization as a community enrichment center! Main tasks will range from heavy lifting and transport of various furniture and other miscellaneous pieces to light-duty cleaning and sorting. CHS will also need support assembling safety kits for their community members. This project is indoor/outdoor and will take place rain or shine.
Waiver: All volunteers must complete the volunteer waiver upon registering - click here to access (opens in a new window).
What to Wear: DSG shirts will be provided, but please arrive wearing comfortable, casual clothing that can get dirty. Volunteers must wear closed-toe shoes that they can easily move around in (sneakers or light boots). Project is indoor/outdoor - sun and rain protection is suggested.
What to Bring: Refreshments and lunch will be provided, but a reusable water bottle may be handy. We also recommend bringing a light backpack or drawstring bag so you may work "hands-free" if you do not want to leave belongings in your car or on the property.
About Community Human Services (CHS): Community Human Services aims to resolve homelessness and hunger in Allegheny County. CHS believes access to food, clothing, and shelter are basic human rights. Primarily funded by Allegheny County's Department of Human Services, CHS operates from trauma-informed, housing-first, and harm-reductive principles.
