At Northside Common Ministries (NCM), we are committed to building those bridges that connect our neighbors in need to an improved quality of life, while tearing down the walls that keep the hungry and homeless from success.
An affiliate unit of Goodwill of Southwestern Pennsylvania, NCM operates the Pleasant Valley Emergency Shelter for men and male-identifying individuals aged 18 and older, the Northside Food Pantry, and a Permanent Housing Program for those with disabilities.
We can’t do all that we do without YOU! NCM’s work is supported and facilitated by hundreds of passionate volunteers throughout the year. We need caring and committed people from the community and neighboring organizations to aid clients shopping in the food pantry and to help provide evening meals to the men’s shelter residents.
Northside Food Pantry
Location: 1601 Brighton Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15212
Volunteers Needed: Greeters, Inventory Organizers & Stockers, Shopping Assistants, Floaters, and Cart Assistants. Bilingual speakers always needed. Requirements may include standing, bending, and lifting up to 50lbs. Groups of five or less only.
Days/Hours:
Monday, 8:45am - 12:15pm. Volunteers help unload our weekly food truck delivery from the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank and jump into a mix of special projects, random tasks, stocking shelves, and whatever else pops up so we’re ready for the week. It’s a very active shift, so come ready for lots of teamwork!
Tuesday and Wednesday, 8:00am - 12:30pm. These are our community-facing days. Volunteers help restock shelves, support shoppers as they choose free food and household items, and keep things running smoothly. It’s a fast-paced, hands-on shift and one of the best ways to connect directly with our neighbors.
