Who? In addition to confirming your registration here (by selecting "respond"), Computer Reach now requires a Volunteer Accommodation Intake to be certain the events at our warehouse are a good fit for each individual. You will need to have the intake form on record for admission to any events.
When? Computer Reach hosts in-person volunteer days most Fridays from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Please check the Pittsburgh Cares Volunteer Schedule submit the required registration to gain admission to our events.
Where? All volunteers will report to our headquarters at 7800 Susquehanna Street. Free parking is available.
Skills:
- Communicating with groups of volunteers in English (we cannot accommodate non-English volunteers)
- Understanding basic instructions from leaders via visual and audio prompting (we cannot accommodate blind and deaf volunteers)
- Counting to to at least 100 accurately (we cannot accommodate intellectually challenged volunteers)
- Lifting 5 pounds or more repetitively (we cannot accommodate lack of strength or injured volunteers)
- Standing for long periods (we cannot accommodate non-ambulatory volunteers)
- Sorting computer parts
- Cleaning tech equipment
- Testing devices
- Installing hardware and software
Activities:
- Refurbishing equipment that is repairable
- Recycling of anything not fixable
- Testing and cleaning monitors, keyboards, and mice
- Packing up computer systems for shipments to individuals and organizations in need.
- Counting and organizing power cords, cables and much more …
- Auditing recently donated computers and devices
