Purpose:
Support families affected by local emergencies—mostly home fires—by providing immediate care, comfort, and resources to help them begin recovery.
Key Responsibilities:
- Respond to local disasters as part of a team.
- Provide emotional support and emergency assistance to impacted individuals.
- Communicate with team members and leadership during responses.
- Help assess needs and request additional support when necessary.
- Document services provided using Red Cross systems.
- Attend team meetings and stay current with training.
Time Commitment:
- Flexible scheduling: weekday, weeknight, or weekend shifts.
- Must commit to four 6-hour on-call shifts per month.
- Complete 8 hours of online training and attend volunteer meetings.
Qualifications:
- Comfortable using technology (cell phone, laptop/computer).
- Reliable transportation and valid driver’s license.
- Must be willing to respond throughout the entire county.
- Able to work in challenging conditions (weather, terrain, etc.).
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Must be 18 years or older.
- Willing to follow Red Cross and public health guidelines.
Support & Training:
- Online and on-the-job training provided.
- Ongoing support from Disaster Services leadership and team.
