Engage in United Way's Poverty Spiral Simulation to gain a deeper understanding of how some families in our community struggle to meet their basic needs.
Put yourself in your neighbor’s shoes by taking part in United Way’s Poverty Spiral simulation. Choose how you would handle a series of real-world financial decisions, based around actual calls from United Way’s 211 helpline. There are rarely obvious choices. You’ll learn in a whole new way the challenges that too many in our community face just to pay for the basics every day. This nontraditional volunteer opportunity is a great way to learn how you can positively impact your community by understanding your neighbors’ challenges.

Each of our nonprofit organizations for our Day of Smiles plays such an important role in our community and aligns directly with our core values. We are proud to announce that as part of our ongoing 75th Anniversary celebration, the United Way of Southwestern PA will receive an additional donation of $75,000 on Day of Smiles! Volunteers that sign up for this location will have the opportunity to be a part of the check presentation, in addition to volunteering.
