Each semester, we recruit an Education Outreach intern to assist our Education Outreach Coordinator with the Japan in the Schools program and the High School Japanese Speech Contest.
As an intern, you will play an active role in the support of
our various programs, present research to the Executive Director, and help with
daily office tasks.
This opportunity is mainly geared towards college students, but adults with daytime availability and interest are also encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities:
· Assist with preparation of school visit materials;
· Support communication efforts with teachers and volunteers;
· Attend school visits as able and uphold a professional and enthusiastic image for the JASP;
· Take photos and summarize visits;
· Create promotional materials for print and website;
· Research and draft grants in support of the program;
· Share ideas, ask questions, and offer suggestions during Committee meetings;
· Develop office etiquette and skills (telephone, emails, meetings);
· Build relationships and trust with stakeholders.
Qualifications:
· Must have proficiency with MS Office Suite;
· Must be self-motivated and willing to ask questions;
· Ability to accomplish tasks in a timely manner and work as a team;
· Strong communication and research skills;
· Teaching or tutoring experience not a requirement to apply but a plus;
· Japanese fluency not a requirement to apply but a plus;
· Interest in Japan and bridging cross-cultural communication;
· Interest in non-profit management and grant research.
Educational Benefits: Students will gain the experience of working in a professional setting, while interacting with various stakeholders within the community. Through participation in JASP events, interns have the opportunity to meet and network with high-level business professionals and local community members.
