Every Friday night, we open our doors at The Open Door for a FREE REC NIGHT!
We provide both free and structured games & activities, with (of course) a snack break! Our gym floor features 2 basketball hoops and potential for dodgeball, hockey, volleyball, and more. We also set up the Art Room for small, mostly self-directed projects and room for plenty of creativity. Many of our kids have started to bring baby dolls from home, so we've created a play area for that, too. The Lego Table is also a popular option, and our new Game Lounge is a great space for board games or just hanging out!
Volunteers are needed to supervise, facilitate, and engage in these activities. The main requirement is a willingness to have FUN ... and receive a lot of hugs and high fives!
Kids in 1st through 5th grade attend from 6pm-7:45pm
6th-12th graders may come from 8:00-10:00 pm
Also, Volunteers must:
- Be at least age 13 or in 7th Grade to help with the Younger Kid time
- Have a clear Child Abuse Background Check, Criminal Background Check, and potentially other Clearances
- Understand basic methods of interacting with a diverse group of children
- Be willing to engage in at least 2 kinds of play from the list we offer (see paragraph above)
Come get to know the amazing kids & teens of our community, and have fun doing so!
